Inheritances

I have an and/or joint bank account with my husband. It is usually used to show that we are not financially in trouble.

But recently I decided to get most of the money and transfer it to another account under my name only.

Why?
Because I decided that if another woman or another child that is not mine would suddenly show up and stake a claim to whatever our joint account has, they would have a right to it. So, instead of my children sharing equally in the contents of our personal joint account, they suddenly would have someone else to share it with.

Not good.
In other words, by putting the money in my name alone, no one else but my children would inherit it.

Why does it matter?
Because if I was to think differently I would think that,

“I didn’t work my ass off all these years playing second fiddle to him and his work to save that money by supporting my husband’s corporate ladder climb only to have my children share what is rightfully theirs to a result of his infidelity and stupidity.”

Because in a marriage, you never know what’s going to suddenly happen. It is always better to think ahead than be filled with regret when an unexpected surprise appears at your doorstep.
