Log in Safely

Memory flashes and realizations come so fleetingly sometimes that I have to stop and write them down.

There is this movie, “Remember Me” is the title, I just suddenly realized what it means.

When logging into your account in most websites there is this question that says “Remember Me” in some other websites it is written as “Keep me signed in.”

Its purpose is to keep a certain file in your hard disk that allows that website to store your login information such as the username and sometimes even possibly the password when the configuration is set to store both the username and the password.

When you allow the website to “Remember You” by clicking on the “Remember Me” or “Keep me signed in” box then you have given yourself an unsecure account. Because when someone suddenly goes to that website that you allowed to “Remember You” using your computer or whatever it is that was used to gain access to that website, then the username you used to login into that website would be automatically displayed on the username field. Also the password would be displayed if the configuration allows it.

Then all some other person has to do is to go wherever he/she wants to go in your account using your username and password that was stored using the “Remember Me” feature.

If the password was not included in the “Remember Me” configuration then with just the username, a software can be used to decipher the password you use for that account and the other person could still get access of your account.

I would like to suppose that it was this feature that was used to gain access to someone’s account that enabled them to gain access to confidential information that was enough to use to destroy the two trade buildings to ground zero.

A fleeting realization a day after the anniversary of the destruction of the two trade buildings and the death of many and I really had to stop whatever it is I was doing to document this fleeting realization lest I lose it and never get the chance to remember it.

The “Remember Me” feature was created to give users the convenience of not having to retype their login info for websites visited. But for those who know how to use it, it is a way to put their snooping skills to extreme use, even at the expense of many many lives, real lives.

Sadly, another innovation that was exploited by a few others for the benefit of destruction and not creation.
