I Still Aintalking

This is iaintalking.com’s first new year’s eve.
And I still aintalking.
Primarily because I have to keep my anonymity when it comes to this blog.

I can’t even talk to other people about what I write here so that no one would even associate me with my blog. Why? Because being anonymous has its perks. One of them is being able to see what’s really happening around me and write about them in a way that is really honest and “uncensored”. Free of the constraints of not being able to say what I really want to say.

Not everyone has this privilege. Many stay silent because saying something would cost them a lot. It can be their job, their assets, their allies or friends. But most importantly, they stay silent because they are afraid of something, and the silence gives them a sense of security from whatever it is that could hurt them.

For the past year, I was privileged enough to be given so many things to write about that many have kept inside them because of their fear of saying anything. And I appreciate the trust that many have given to me for writing about what they wanted to say. For in a place full of silent people, it is hard to know who to trust to tell the truth to. And me being their way of telling the truth that goes on in their lives is a privilege that cannot be abused nor misused.

For the next year I plan to continue iaintalking.com and my plans for it. I may be a blabbermouth to others in real life, but here, I am able to share to others silently what many fear to say out loud.

I probably won’t always have something juicy to write about, but I would always keep my eyes and ears alert.

This new year’s eve, I am in the comfort of my home celebrating with a table of “food for special occasions”, like many others. Waiting for midnight to light the fireworks and watch them color the sky, hoping for a no-fireworks-related-injury evening. But many would not be having what most of us have. Just before today another storm came to uproot a lot of families in another province. They would be celebrating the new year in someone else’s home or someone else’s building.

Maybe next year we could do more than just prepare for storms. Maybe next year we could check out the places where storms could cause landslides and find ways to prevent them from happening. I know it’s possible to find out which places have weak foundations at the ground level. The technology for it exists. If these could be identified, then more preventive measures can be put in place. And maybe next year, everyone here would be able to celebrate new year’s eve in their own homes, because preventive measures were planned and implemented by people who cared enough to do so.

So, if next new year’s eve everyone would be able to celebrate in their own homes with people they care about or just want to be with, even after the passing of a storm, then we could say that we have worked together towards a common goal and reached it together.

Next year there would be more changes here at iaintalking.com. Slow but determined changes that would allow more people to say what they are afraid to say out loud. And I would be adding more features that would allow you, my dear readers, to know how you can help them in ways that you can. You can also click here to help in your own way.

A wonderful new year to all! And to all of you a goodnight!
