JLP

Catchy name
JLP
which means judgmental little princess
or if you are a guy,
judgmental little prick

Like a sentence
First you’re judgmental
then you are little
but you are a princess (or a prick)

A compliment prefixed with an insult
I like it
Because it poses a challenge

First I have to get rid of the judgmental part
then when that’s done
I would have to make myself a little bigger
or an adult, as they say
so that the only word remaining would be
either princess or prick

If I want to reach a certain level where I can say that I have attained the ability and the  credibility of thousands of years of building and adhering to standards in living, then I  should strive to be a princess.

But if I just want to be a pain in the ______, I just opt for the p to be a prick rather than  a princess. A prick that can hurt other people even with just one touch.

Sometimes we forget about this.
when you are a leader of sorts or hold any position in the form of an authoritative figure,  you might become complacent and rest on your laurels. But if you always challenge yourself to meet higher standards everyday, then you veer away from being a prick.

Interestingly enough, when you watch that commercial about Ms. Universe, where they say that they are all princesses, you think of the levels of the competition. They walk on stage watched by so many people, in different kinds of clothes, from full to nearly bare. Then they are asked to show their talents, mingle with various kinds of people, practice congeniality, and eventually answer tough questions that are either unexpected or surprisingly tough.

What if you were running for Ms. Universe (or its counterpart) and you are a leader of our  country? What would you think you would be in terms of rank? Could you go up the stage and strut your stuff in various kinds of clothing? Could you go up the stage and strut your stuff while slowly being stripped by the people and your peers with every question they ask.

Why do I say this?

Probably because I am tired of the hypocrisy in the system. Hypocrisy because every once in a while there is at least one authoritative figure that is grilled by their peers for some unlawful activity or a bad decision. Every part of their life is slowly peeled away from them and broadcasted to everyone who is willing to hear or read about it. Every bad decision, every coin pocketed, everything that could possibly be revealed shall be revealed in the guise of good governance or justice. The difference is, when they are stripped it isn’t nice to hear or even look at. So between watching a really toned body of a beautiful woman in a bikini and watching an expose of some “unforgivable” feat, I’d opt for the beautiful woman anytime.

My point is simple really.

Every year we hear about an expose about some authoritative figure, handpicked for that point in time to be grilled for a long long time. Then we hear about everyone else’s names being involved too. But only a handful are punished.

If it would be possible to just expose the whole truth and nothing but the truth, would anyone in any authoritative figure right now be able to say that they have never in their whole frigging lifetime made a bad authoritative decision, or have never received an “extraordinarily special gift” from someone asking an “extraordinarily special favor”.

I don’t think so. It really just depends on who is easiest to grill at that point in time.

Then maybe the following year it’s one of the griller’s turn to be grilled.  Or it could be those who kill their workers literally. Or those who misused the donations for rebuilding storm-stricken places.

Who knows?

Additional Thoughts on the Matter:

For want of a better metaphor, in the beauty pageant, you are shown to the viewers in different kinds and lengths of clothing because you have to show that even if you are wearing something skimpy you still look good, even really good and be capable of answering questions and holding your head up high. Because even if you are in your barest, you still look good and are good.If you are a leader you have to always be conscious of the possibility tat someone might be wearing x-ray glasses and looking at your insides if they are good or not.

All these years of my adulthood, when inquisitions are made for the sake of so-called good governance and justice, what I see is just a bunch of people trying to find out how someone else allegedly got away with something while making themselves “look” good even if they aren’t really good. So that if they did something similar or plan to do something similar they would be able to know which processes and procedures are supposed to be careful about so as not to arouse suspicion or even be caught themselves. It’s like asking someone in detail how he got to scale the high wall, climb up the tree and get an apple without being caught by the surveillance cameras, guard dogs, and even the owners themselves so that they too can do the same.

Bottomline is this, what’s the priority. When doing inquisitions, who do they prioritize first?
Do they prioritize those who allegedly gained a lot of money from construction deals or by signing contracts?

Because personally, I prefer that they prioritized these kinds of allegations or cases.
- Those who misuse donations given for the rehabilitation of disaster-stricken areas
- Those who misuse and abuse international financial help for economic rehabilitation efforts
- Those who abuse their workers and/or tenants and even kill them
- Those who misuse funds that are supposed to be used for purchasing and maintaining technology that is for protecting lives on a daily basis and especially during natural calamities

If those who have spent so much time on inquisitions that are only after allegedly “shady deals” for personal gain had spent even a quarter or even half of their time pursuing inquisitions on the issues I think they should be prioritizing as I said above, then those who should have received help to start lives anew after a calamity would be able to. Then those who have been killed because they were fighting for their rights as tenants would have received the justice that they seek. Then those people who were killed during the past years’ calamities would still be alive because the technology needed to keep them safe were purchased and put in place.

Sincerity of intentions is hard to come by. And when inquisitions are made, they cost a lot of money in terms of cash and people’s time. Time and money that should be targeted towards inquisitions that would actually help the majority get to stand up again. And we know that the issues at inquisitions are usually about getting some people out of some other leader’s way so they can get what they want. It also is about digging up information because someone big messed up and have to find out how to get out of the mess before they get caught so some other similar instance should become the issue to divert the attention from the real issues.

But the truth of the matter is that in the end, those who gain are not really the people and the population they are supposed to serve. For after the inquisitions, the population is still in need of sincere economic rehabilitation. And this need would always be under-prioritized for issues that are more power-keeping in nature. Sadly so.
